Diesel costs soar for Ballarat council; some capital works could be delayed says CEO

Along with most other councils and businesses the City of Ballarat is seeing a massive increase in its diesel bill.

Because of the Iran war it has cost the city an extra $150,000 a month so far, with the total increase until June 30 tipped to be half a million dollars.

Council CEO Evan King says it may mean some capital works are pushed back.

“So, we might push a road reconstruction project out until next year’s program, they’re the sort of things we do to try and manage it.”

“We don’t want to impact services.”

“Our waste service is vitally important so there are absolutely no plans to adjust those services at all,” Mr. King said.

The cost of diesel in Ballarat is currently ranging between $2.45 and $3.08 a litre.
