It appears Ballarat’s new 4-bin system is not yet reducing the amount of rubbish we send to the cities landfill site at Smythesdale.

Back in November Ballarat residents all received a new purple lidded bin for glass and a food organics caddy along with compostable green bags with the aim of lowering what we throw out.

However, Cr Tess Morgan says there’s still some education needed when it comes to the FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) process.

“I’m getting some feedback with people saying it’s great, I love it.”

“Even people saying now my rubbish bin, my general waste bin is virtually empty, that’s really, really positive,”

“But the data that we have for the whole municipality, and it’s early days, the initial data we have doesn’t show that people are making that switch,” Cr Morgan said.
