Ballarat beer drinkers are getting set to raise a glass next month with the return of an old favourite.
Ballarat Bitter is getting set to return to the city after first being brewed here in the late 1800’s.
Steve Coghlan, a descendent of the family who founded the brew has purchased the brand and its iconic mascot ‘Bertie’ from Japanese giant Asahi, the parent company of Carlton & United Breweries.

CUB bought the brewery in 1958 before closing it in 1989.
The beer, which will be brewed in Melbourne initially, is expected to be on tap in numerous pubs from July 11 as well as through local bottle shops.
