No extra cash for Ballarat yet, as council assesses road damage

Despite the state of Ballarat’s roads getting much worse with more than 80mm of rain last week, at this stage the city does not qualify for any extra state government cash.

The Central Goldfields, Hepburn, and Pyrenees Councils are named in the 24 to receive $500,000 grants for help in rebuilding and the clean-up.

Ballarat Council Chief Executive Officer Evan King says we’ll have to wait.
 
“As the emergency passes by and we start to move to recovery obviously those funding opportunities will open up to fix all of the damage that’s been caused to infrastructure,” Mr King said.

Meantime, local flood warnings are reducing as Ballarat looks to a dry and mostly sunny start to the week.
Skipton is now on ‘stay informed’ orders following the swelling of the Mt Emu Creek on Friday.
The skies are set to open again over Ballarat however from Thursday with up to 55mm expected over a four day period.
