The 18,634 affected vehicles are i30 hatchbacks stamped 2020 and 2021 models – though they may have been sold at a later date – and cover standard models with 2.0-litre non-turbo petrol engines, as well as the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol N Line.
According to the recall notice, “Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel pump impeller may become deformed under certain environmental conditions, interrupting the fuel supply.
“If this occurs, the engine could stall resulting in a sudden loss of motive power.
“A sudden loss of motive power while driving may increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) will contact owners of affected vehicles in writing, advising them to schedule an appointment to have the fuel pump impeller inspected and replaced at no cost.
