In the world of A-list celebrities, gifts usually range from vintage watches to luxury cars. However, Ed Sheeran has officially raised the bar (and the height requirements) by sending fellow hitmaker Post Malone a life-sized, vinyl Tyrannosaurus Rex.
During an appearance on the popular Call Her Daddy podcast last year, Sheeran opened up to host Alex Cooper about his budding bromance with the “Chemical” singer. Despite only spending one evening together, Sheeran was so struck by Post Malone’s vibe that he decided a standard “thank you” card simply wouldn’t suffice.
The Six-Tonne Gesture
According to Sheeran, the idea for the gift started as a joke during their night out. Most people would forget a throwaway comment about prehistoric decor by the next morning, but Sheeran is clearly a man of his word.
“I found this company that does the huge, vinyl dinosaurs that you get at zoos – you know, the ones that are like the size of buildings. So I sent him a T-Rex,” Sheeran revealed.
Ed seems truly aware of how ridiculous these gifts are but now that he’s fully committed to the joke he’s going be be like Oprah with cars.. “you get a Dinosaur, you get a dinosaur, YOU get a dinosaur”!
One thing is certain: the bar for “new friend” etiquette has been permanently moved to the Jurassic period.
