With winter starting on Thursday, on paper anyway, Sustainability Victoria (SV) is urging Ballarat residents to turn their heaters down not up.
They says the ‘goldilocks zone’ on your thermostat should be between 18 and 20 degrees with every degree higher increasing running costs by about 10%.
Speaking to Radio Ballarat Toby Cuming from SV says heating dominates our energy consumption in the home.
“If you think about your household energy costs for the year heating is by far the biggest.”
“43% of your energy bill on average is down to heating, hot water is a distant second at about 17% and everything else is lower than that,” Mr. Cuming said.
