Grampians Health says it is unsure what is driving sky-high demand at the Ballarat Base Hospitals Emergency Department this week.
If you don’t really need emergency care, they’re encouraging locals to see a GP, look up a telehealth service or go to the Priority Primary Care Centre in Windemere Street.
Chief Strategy & Regions Officer Dr Rob Grenfell says you might notice extra ambulances near the hospital for most of the week.
“Well, we are still trying to get to the bottom of why we’ve had this sudden surge.”
“Let’s put it out there that the people who are in hospital actually need to be there, we’ve certainly got quite a considerable number of severe cases coming towards us.”
“Anyone who has been past would say, gee there’s a lot of ambulances sitting around the hospital, we’re doing everything we possibly can to improve the flow,” Dr. Grenfell said.
