Grampians Health Ballarat has made an important call for those at risk of thunderstorm asthma.
Typically running from October to December, the local health authority has advised the thunderstorm asthma season has been extended state-wide until this Sunday the 15th of January due to rye grass and pollen conditions.
There are currently no warnings for a thunderstorm asthma event in the Ballarat region, although asthma and hayfever sufferers are advised to stay informed at the Vic Emergency website.
From Grampians Health: “People who suffer from asthma or hay fever should avoid being outside during thunderstorms, including avoiding wind gusts that come prior to a storm. Closing doors and windows on high-risk days is also recommended to prevent thunderstorm asthma. Those who often experience
wheezing or coughing during asthma or hay fever attacks are at a heightened risk.”
