Three dead following horror Western Highway crash

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle collision in Armstrong, north-west of Ararat this afternoon, where three people have died.

It is understood two cars, a B-double and two smaller trucks were involved in a collision on the Western Highway, near the intersection of Thomas Road about 12.30pm.

The driver of a car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two occupants of one of the trucks also died at the scene.

They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the other car involved was taken to hospital as a precaution.

At this stage, the exact circumstances of the collision are yet to be determined.

The Western Highway remains closed in both directions according to the Department of Transport.

The closure now stretches from Ararat to Stawell, and is likely to remain in place for a number of hours.

The detours are lengthy and will add considerable distance and time to journeys.
