Christmas revellers be warned – a scoot home from a festive celebration is not on.
With Ballarat’s Neuron e-scooter network growing as the months get warmer, the company has advised its “Festive ScootSafe” campaign has been launched.
Neuron’s Safety Ambassadors will be out in communities over Christmas and New Year to intercept riders under the influence.
In the first 8 months of Ballarat’s e-scooter trial – which has now been extended to March 2023 – Ballarat Base Hospital confirmed there had been 40 e-scooter injury presentations.
While it’s been reported “most” in the community use the zippy orange vehicles safely, the mistaken belief that they’re an easy way home after a drink is dangerous and costly.
Being nabbed under the influence while on an e-scooter can result in the loss of a person’s drivers licence, according to Victoria Police.
