A prominent politician in the Andrews Government who Ballarat has been able to call its own is stepping away from her political career.
Jaala Pulford – Employment Minister and Member for Western Victoria in the Upper House – will not contest next month’s state election.
Growing up in Castlemaine and earning a degree from the University of Ballarat, she says it’s time to seek new challenges after first being elected in 2006.
Pulford’s time since the Andrews Labor Government’s 2014 election win has been paved with heartache, with her 13-year-old daughter Sinead dying of cancer in the following fortnight.
She’s since used her platform to campaign in support of voluntary assisted dying laws in Victoria, and the legalisation of medicinal cannabis.
