A Yendon resident, who lost her home in the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983, is concerned that fuel loads along local roads and railway lines in the Ballarat region are far too high.

The concern comes just 8 weeks after residents of Buninyong & Scotsburn were ordered to evacuate because of out-of-control bushfires.

Margo Rees says now is the time to reduce the fuel load.

“I find it a little bit ironic that we have ads in the media during summer telling us to clean up our properties.”

“The agencies that we actually pay as taxpayers to help keep us safe, in my opinion, I feel that if they are going to preach it to us, they should be doing the same themselves,” Ms. Rees said.

Agencies contacted by Ms. Rees include the CFA, Central Highlands Water and V/Line as well as the Moorabool Shire, City of Ballarat and state and federal MPs.
