New research by the Ballarat-based Petstock Foundation has shown 1 in 4 Australians are going without food to feed their pets.
It also found 42 per cent of pet owners are buying cheaper food for themselves.
“It’s very confronting, but I also think that it speaks to the passion that we have for our pets,” says Naomi Mancktelow from the foundation.
“We know that pets are family, and we know that in times of crisis we look at the family as one whole unit, so we do what we need to do to make sure that all of the kids, parents and pets are taken care of.”
