The 2024 Ballarat Cycle Classic has been launched in the city this morning, with locals urged to get on their bike for cancer research.

Held over the 17th and 18th of February, the event will feature downhill mountain, gravel and road biking, with a goal to raise $250,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.

Honorary Director for the Institute, Professor George Kannourakis says the community’s support has been essential.

“We’ve had no government funding, state or federal, to support the institute, so we’re quite happy to say this is a community supported institute,” he said.

“Without [the community support], we couldn’t do any of this,” he said.
