Locals urged to get involved in 16 days of activism

Ballarat and the Hepburn Shire are ready to take steps towards ending gender based violence.

The international “16 Days of Activism” begins Friday November 25, a campaign hoping to end violence against women and girls.

The 16 days begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

This year’s campaign theme is ‘Respect Women: Call It Out’, with research finding that disrespect based around gender qualities increases the likelihood of violence against women.

Various activations will be held for locals to get involved and show their advocacy for the cause.

On Friday in Ballarat, Ballarat City Council will hold a free panel at Robert Clark Horticultural Centre at 3pm to discuss how community members and organisations can take steps to eliminate gender-based violence.

The Zonta Club of Ballarat will hold a twilight walk around Lake Wendouree, gathering at 5.30pm at View Point.

On Fridayin Hepburn, residents in Trentham, Daylesford, Creswick and Clunes are invited to a gentle communal walk to help raise awareness starting from the library in each town at 3.30pm.
