Grants of up to $10,000 are being delivered to grassroots football and netball clubs in hopes of reducing road trauma.
This year’s recipients of the 2025 TAC Club Rewards program were announced earlier this week, with the Ballarat League’s Sebastopol Football-Netball Club being one of just three clubs statewide to receive the full $10k amount.
CEO of the TAC, Tracey Slatter and the Head of AFL Victoria, Greg Madigan visited their home-ground earlier this week to make the announcement.
Ms Slatter said the program aims to empower clubs to develop a culture where all players and members are expected to be safe on the roads.
“By making road safety a priority, these clubs are protecting their members and setting a powerful example,” Ms Slatter said.
According to Mr Madigan, grassroots clubs are a great platform to promote behaviour change and awareness.
“Particularly for our regional communities, footballers cover hundreds of kilometres on the road each season, travelling to and from games and training, so road safety needs to be front of mind for us all,” Mr Madigan said.
“Throughout this football season, many of our clubs have demonstrated a significant commitment to promoting road safety and education, and on behalf of AFL Victoria I am thrilled to see those clubs rewarded for their efforts through the TAC Club Rewards Program.”
In total, more than 300 clubs statewide have earned a share in the $700,000 offered as part of this year’s program.
Among the other local clubs awarded cash are:
- Bacchus Marsh Football Netball Club
- Ballan Football Netball Club
- Ballarat Football Netball Club
- Beaufort Football Netball Club
- Darley Junior Football Netball Club
- Lake Wendouree Football Netball Club
- North Ballarat Football Netball Club
The funding has been welcomed by the Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Melissa Horne.
“These clubs are at the heart of their communities and have shown incredible leadership in promoting road safety, their efforts are helping to make every journey on Victoria’s roads a safer one,” Ms Horne said.
