Footing works got underway today on the controversial $3.2 million lake lighting project for Ballarat.

The footings are being installed for 225 light poles going in around Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park.

The works are starting on the lake foreshore’s north side near the Forest Street and Wendouree Parade roundabout.

“The works will be guided by a project arborist and will comply with the Tree and Construction Management Plan for the project,” council said in a media release.

Underground boring of electrical conduit for the lights has almost reached the half-way mark around the lake, with 2.7 of the 6.5 kilometres and 88 electrical pits completed.
