Future unclear for prime Ballarat events precinct land

Despite last week’s raft of Commonwealth Games announcements for Ballarat, including $150 million for Mars Stadium, the future of the prime former John Valves site remains unclear.

The vacant land sits right alongside the major events precinct next to Selkirk Stadium and is said to be valued at between $10 and $12 million.

City of Ballarat Chief Executive Officer Evan King says discussions on the site continue.
 
“The John Valves site is privately owned and those owners may have a whole range of different plans of what they might want to do with that site or not.”

“Whether it’s needed for the Commonwealth Games is still a discussion that’s happening around what space is needed for the games and what are the needs,” Mr King said.
