Could Ballarat get a Greens aligned mayor? It’s possible

Ballarat’s Greens councillor has put her hand up to be the cities next mayor, if her colleagues want her.

Current Mayor Daniel Moloney won’t seek a third term when it ends at this month’s council meeting scheduled for Wednesday night.

Belinda Coates says she’s up for the challenge.
 
“Look, I’m always open to leadership roles whether it be Mayor or Deputy Mayor.”

“The only votes that count in that situation though are the votes of other councillors, so it will be up to the councillor group to decide who is successful, but I am always open to putting my hand up,” Cr Coates said.
 
Ballarat’s nine councillors will vote in a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor on November 7th.
