Not only has Ballarat’s Clarendon College housed the top VCE ATAR result in our region, it’s earned the honour of top scoring school in the state.

Earlier this week, Zachary Hengel received an ATAR result of 99.9.

Now it’s been revealed Clarendon students scored an average of 38 across their VCE subjects, while nearly 36% of the school’s VCE study scores were above 40 – the highest number in Victoria.

The results come in a year that saw a spike in study scores for many outer suburban and rural state schools.

Last month it was revealed that Clarendon College is the top regional Victorian school, and in the top 5 schools nationally, for NAPLAN scores.

While the college is one of Ballarat’s top fee paying independent schools at $20,000 a year for a year 12 student, Newscorp highlights this is $15,000 less than other leading independent schools.

The good news comes in the wake of major controversy for the school.

In October, allegations around the school having a toxic culture of bullying, misogyny and racism were made by a whistleblower, and allegedly backed up by up to a dozen staff members.

An independently sanctioned external investigation by the school cleared its principal David Shepherd of wrongdoing, however a WorkSafe investigation is reportedly still underway into the claims.
