Ballarat’s soft plastics recycling pilot program might be 9-months old already, but its still not too late to get involved.
Around 6000 households have signed up for the scheme locally whilst nationwide its kept 40,000kg of soft plastics out of landfill.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves says there’s a chance it could be extended beyond the 12-month pilot.
“I think the beauty of a trial like this is that we can see the potential and work out things that need to be considered along the way.”
“But we would definitely like to see the program continue for sure,” Mayor Hargreaves said.
It comes as Ballarat residents get set to receive a fourth bin, this one for glass recycling, from November this year as well as a Food Organics-Garden Organics (FOGO) scheme.
