Ballarat’s re-built gothic fernery in Lake Wendouree’s Botanic Gardens could soon have some ferns.

Despite looking impressive, it’s been sitting empty for months, devoid of any green life after council voted in May last year to proceed with the $500,000 stage 2 works.

Council CEO Evan King says they’ll be choosing a landscaper via a tender process at some stage soon.

“The landscaping works are a little broader than just putting ferns into the fernery.”

“We’ll see some work on the forecourt and it will make access a lot easier from Wendouree Parade,” Mr King said.

The gothic fernery was rebuilt at a cost of $1.7 million, around $300,000 above initial estimates in the 2015 council budget, causing public outcry.
