A Ballarat religious leader has remembered Pope Francis as a thoroughly decent human being to his core.
On Monday, the Vatican confirmed the death of the 88-year-off pontiff from a stroke and heart failure.
A local mass in memory of the late Pope’s life was held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral yesterday.
Vicar General for the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat, Fr. Marcello Colasante says the Pope was about mercy and compassion, particularly for those who were oppressed.
“He’s left us with a legacy that I would hope whoever his successor is will be able to continue and carry on,” Fr. Colasante said.
“He was a good example of what it is to be human.”
