Ballarat has braced for wild winds this afternoon as a severe weather warning remains in place for about 90% of the state.
Our peak gust so far was 83kph coming from the north-west just after 3pm.
Community warnings have been issued by local police, the SES and Powercor with numerous reports of trees down across the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the damaging winds are expected to ease in Ballarat this evening.
“Conditions are expected to ease over the north and west later Wednesday afternoon, over central parts in the evening and over the southeast during Thursday morning,” a BOM spokesperson said.
“Destructive wind gusts are no longer expected about the coast west of Port Fairy.”
Tomorrow will be cloudy in Ballarat with west to southwesterly winds between 15 to 20kph and a top temperature of 15C.
