Ballarat’s long awaited Sleepbus has finally arrived in the city.

The charity leading the project Sleepbus.org folded recently forcing the Committee for Ballarat to involve lawyers to get it here.

Although it is roadworthy, it’ll now need to be fitted out correctly so it can support Ballarat’s homeless.

“It’s late, it’s not operational, and there’s a fair bit of work to do.”

“We really need to manage public expectation about the timing of it, but the good thing is it is now in our hands,” said Committee for Ballarat CEO Michael Poulton.

The Ballarat community had raised $140,000 towards the project and even had a bus donated, just how much it will cost to finish it remains unclear.

The Committee brought together a number of organisations to help secure the bus including the On Track Foundation, the Ballarat West Rotary Club, Uniting Ballarat, the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat, Ballarat’s Uniting Central Church, Compassionate Ballart and Nevetts Lawyers.
