Three people have been saved from a doomed jet ski trip in a heroic rescue east of Ballarat.
On duty Ballan Acting Sergeant Sally Fairweather spotted an unmanned jet ski circling in Pykes Creek Reservoir as she was driving on the Western Freeway on Sunday night, along with the trio huddled in the water.
Whilst the two men and young boy were wearing life jackets, they were unable to reach the jet ski they had fallen off or swim to shore, leaving them stranded in the water with no-one around to assist.
Acting Sergeant Fairweather removed her boots and belt and swam 250 metres in her police uniform, boarding the jet ski and then rescuing its stranded passengers.
They were assessed by Ambulance Victoria at the scene and survived with no injuries.
