Three people have been saved from a doomed jet ski trip in a heroic rescue east of Ballarat.

On duty Ballan Acting Sergeant Sally Fairweather spotted an unmanned jet ski circling in Pykes Creek Reservoir as she was driving on the Western Freeway on Sunday night, along with the trio huddled in the water.
