Dystonia Awareness Month

September is globally known as Dystonia awareness month and our small committee of volunteers at DNA were hoping to receive support for raising understanding of this life altering condition. carefully.

Our organisation seeks to support those living with Dystonia, a neurological movement disorder that causes abnormal ‘misfiring’ of muscles within the body. This disorder presents itself uniquely in each diagnosed individual , resulting in physical involuntary movements, alongside hidden degrees of pain & mental health challenges.

Dystonia effects the day-to-day functioning of those living with the condition significantly.

Although considered to be the 3rd most common movement disorder in the world, it is often not spoken about or known.

Currently there is no known cure.

We do have events happening throughout September (eg.video interview with multi award winning & loved singer/ song writer Jenny Morris who herself lives with Laryngeal Dystonia, member Zoom interview time with Tom Seaman on the 12th of September 9am AEST,  renowned author with personal life experience of living with Dystonia)

However with excitement we will be illuminating some Aussie icons in blue throughout every state & territory in Australia , on the evening of the 18th of September.

In Vic it will be the Bolte Bridge & the Big Wave in San Remo

More about who we are can be found by visiting: www.dystonia.org.au   or following: @dystonianetworkaustralia.
