Just to remind everyone, this entire concept started from an image on 4CHAN.
A24 has a new horror film on the way, part found footage horror, part spooky science fiction. The film titled “Backrooms” is actually based on an indie horror game that went viral a few years ago. It seems that 2026 is the indie video game horror adaptation year. With Markiplier’s Iron Lung releasing this year to huge commercial and critical success, here’s hoping A24 can knock this one out of the park.
Now in terms to what the movie is about. Backrooms stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange, and 12 Years a Slave) finding a strange doorway in the basement of a furniture store that takes him to a mysterious place that appears endless and hides supernatural horrors. Honestly, that’s about all I can tell you, and that’s not me being cagey with information that’s genuinely all there currently is to know about the story. You can check out the trailer below.
If the movie is anything like the game, or if it continues the current trend of video game adaptations to screens then this may be a quiet hit in the making. Definitely keep your eyes on this one, and if for any reason you find yourself going down an empty low lit corridor anytime soon, don’t look back, and keep your eyes open.
