Dementia Australia is calling for significant Federal investment after releasing new figures showing dementia cases are rapidly rising.

In Ballarat the current estimated prevalence of the disease sits at 2251 people, that’s expected to jump by a staggering 86% by 2054 to 4196 people.

Dementia Australia CEO Tanya Buchanan says dementia is now the nation’s leading cause of death and demands a stronger national response.

“Dementia Australia is really calling for essential investment from the Federal Government to implement the National Dementia Action Plan.”

“That includes launching a national brain health campaign, providing a network of dementia care navigators and building the capability of the dementia care workforce,” Ms. Buchanan said.

Ballarat currently ranks at number 23 on the Victorian dementia prevalence list with Greater Bendigo at 19 and Greater Geelong at number one.
