Ballarat public school staff to protest funding cuts

Ballarat public school staff will rally today, in protest of recent funding cuts.

They say $2.4 billion has been cut from public schools, with the state government delaying commitments to fully fund them to 2031.

The rally will take place at 4.30pm this afternoon, outside the offices of Wendouree MP Juliana Addison.

In a statement, the Australian Education Union’s Victorian Branch President, Justin Mullally, said the state’s public schools are the lowest funded in the country and Victorian teachers are the lowest paid.

He said Ms. Addison, the Premier and other local Labor MP’s need to explain why they don’t value Ballarat public school students and their teachers, principals, and education support staff.
