Thousands expected at Wednesday’s Community Day as NAIDOC Week kicks off in Ballarat

A flag raising ceremony at the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Cooperative (BADAC) today has marked the start of NAIDOC Week.

This year marks 50 years of the event with the theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy’.

BADAC’s Chief Culture Officer Shu Brown says it’s an important week on the calendar.

“It’s all about the future, the past and the present and honouring those people who’ve come before us to be where we are today,” Mr. Brown said.

A signature event of the week will be Wednesday’s free Community Day at Ballarat High School with between 3000-5000 people expected.
