From 2020, all students at Victorian public primary and secondary schools will have to switch off and stowaway their phones under a new state-wide ban.
The Andrews Government policy aims to prevent mobile phone distraction in the classroom and cyber bullying.
NSW implemented a similar ban in public primary schools earlier this year; however the NSW ban was only ‘opt-in’ for secondary schools.
Under the new Victorian policy, all public school students will be banned from using their phones between the first and final school bells of each day, from term 1 2020.
Exemptions will apply for children who use phones to monitor health conditions.
