What Is Social Jet Lag?

And how to avoid it …

Roughly a third of Australians suffer from ‘social jet lag’ and it is mainly attributed to excessive smart phone and computer usage just before bed time.


A recent study has shown that a lack of (and poor) sleep is taking its toll on many people in the country.

Spending too much time on social media or staring at the laptop or tablet at bedtime is reducing people’s sleep making them go to sleep later, wake up tired, run late for work and feel obliged to go to work when ill.

This is especially concerning when people’s occupations require them to operate dangerous machinery.

If you are suffering from ‘social jet lag’, it is advised that you go to be earlier and stay off your device when you’re trying to get some shut eye!
