You can catch music's weirdest news of the week every Saturday night after 7 on the Hot Hits - Power's new music show. But this week there's just so much weird music news that it deserves its own overflow article. So behold all the stupid stuff this week has brought... and it's only Thursday...
Weird News #1: Tom DeLonge's naked picture book
If you were wondering what Blink 182 frontman Tom DeLonge has been up to since the band booted him out back in 2015, he's writing kids books! With illustrator Ryan Jones, his latest release is the book that Dr Seuss never had the guts to write: Who Here Knows Who Took My Clothes. And now it's been given the animated treatment, as narrated by DeLonge himself.
In promoting the book, DeLonge said: “Truth is, I never imagined that the book would’ve turned out as good as it did, but Ryan’s fun and rich artwork married perfectly with my sense of humor. Then Zach Passero and his incredible animation skills entered the picture and we wound up making something that I think is really special.”
If you're wondering what Tom's sense of humour involves, just remember he was behind this immortal video clip (as well as owning one of the behinds in the clip).
Weird News #2: Ariana Grande's wonderfully misspelt tattoo.
Have you ever been caught out when travelling overseas by accidentally translating something wrong? Well at least you don't have that mistake tattooed on your body forever.
Overnight, Ariana Grande showed off her new tatt, written in Kanji. Kanji is an alphabet used in both China and Japan but it means different things in each. In China her tatt means '7 Wheels' or 7 Rings - the title for her record breaking new single. In Japan however, it means '7 small barbecue grills'.
for those who are confused, ariana grande got a tattoo on her hand in japanese intended to spell out “7 rings” and posted it on instagram (now deleted), but japanese people in the comments started saying how the REAL translation is bbq grill pic.twitter.com/rF0NvEa9Yv— Alice (@alice2096) 30 January 2019
If you're wondering why this is the case (and why she hasn't fixed it!) Ariana wrote in a now-deleted tweet: “it hurt like f--- n still looks tight." (The tattoo was on her palm!) “I wouldn’t have lasted one more symbol lmao. But this spot also peels a ton and won’t last so if I miss it enough, I’ll suffer thru the whole thing next time. Also… huge fan of tiny bbq grills."
Now we just sit back and wait for someone to adjust the 7 Rings lyrics:
"Wearing a ring, but ain't gon' be no "Mrs."
Bought matching barbies for six of my bitches."
Weird News #3: Offset is completely obsessed with cereal.
Remember when social media was taking off and old people would say dismissive things like 'Why do I want to hear about what celebrities have for breakfast?' THIS IS WHY!
Yesterday Offset posted a bunch of Insta stories with his son. In one of these he asks his son if he likes sour candy before opening his pantry and revealing this.
bruh why does offset have so much cereal pic.twitter.com/LCWOcmywGg— sophia (@sophiapolitis98) 30 January 2019
According to someone at Spin Magazine with way too much free time, there's around 45 cereal boxes in that pantry.
This isn't the first time that Offset's raised eyebrows over his cereal obsession. Last year his ex-wife Cardi B posted this hillarious vid on Instagram.
Between Offset's cereal obsession and Ariana's barbecue, we're building quite a smorgasbord here...
Weird News #4: Chance the Rapper and the Backstreet Boys have written a love song to corn chips.
"Unwatchable, borderline upsetting" is how Rolling Stone Magazine have described this collaboration, so you've been warned up front. For their 2019 Super Bowl ad, Dorritos have recruited Chance the Rapper and the Backstreet Boys to rerecord everybody's favourite karaoke tune, 'I Want It That Way'. But now the lyrics are about corn chips.
If that doesn't sound bad enough, throw in an awkward dance number in a warehouse, some colourful burnouts and Chance dancing like he's Peter Garrett.
This is pushing the concept of 'so bad it's good' right to the very edge. Then it's dancing on that edge...
