Childish Gambino broke Aussie hearts by cancelling his sold out tour in late October, but there's a new reason to get excited about the singing/acting superstar.
At a self-organised festival in Auckland last night, he shared the trailer for his upcoming film, Guava Island. And that's where the trailer would've stayed if it weren't for an oppotunitsic Tweeter who managed to record it on their phone. Starring Childish Gambino, Rihanna and Letitia Wright from Black Panther, one line seems to sum up what we know about the project: "We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here,”
Of course Childish Gambino, real name Donald Glover, made his name on the screen before turning to music (writing for 30 Rock and starring in Community), and it looks like the film will have a lot of the same ingredients as his multi-award winning drama series Atlanta. For one thing, the film's being directed by Hiro Murai, who has directed quite a few Atlanta eps as well as that famous music video for 'This is America'. And going on the trailer, you can expect plenty of music with a dose of the dream-like.
The project has long been rumoured, with Rihanna and Glover spotted on set in Havana back in August. Now it's just a matter of time before the trailer gets an official release and we can finally see the flick for ourselves.
