Petition To Change Australian National Anthem to “Untouched” Has Not Really Taken Off

Advance Australia Fair has been around for a while, and even though not long ago it had a word change, now people are calling for it to be scrapped altogether and replaced with a song by the Veronicas.

Quick lesson in "Advance Australia Fair".

It is the national anthem of Australia.

It was first performed way back in 1878.

But it replaced "God Save the Queen" as the official national anthem in 1984 (due to a plebiscite held back in 1977 to choose a national song  for Australia).

In case you were wondering what a plebiscite is (cause I had no idea) , it's the direct vote of all the members of an electorate on an important public question such as a change in the constitution.

Just last November, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian wanted the song to acknowledge Australia's Indigenous history so she asked for one word to be changed in the anthem, she wanted "we are young and free" to be changed to "we are one and free".This change was accepted and came into place January 1 this year.

Now onto replacing Advance Australia Fair altogether.

One fan of the Veronicas wants Untouched to be the new Aussie Anthem.

She even set up a petition on, here's a screen shot of her reason why she wants it changed:

Vernocias untouched

So at this point in time, 10 people have signed the petition.

The Veronicas on the other hand, laughed when they first heard about it.
