A group of artists based in Clunes have received funding for the federal government for an art project.

Announced yesterday, Luke O'Connor was awarded $15,000 for the Frankenbike project from Regional Arts Victoria, who deliver the funds from the highly competitive Regional Arts Fund.

The Frankenbike project will involve a group of young men working with three local artists in Clunes to create "strange, sculptural but ultimately rideable creations".

Bikes will be transformed into creations dreamt up by the imaginations of the local young men, and will become part of community celebrations throughout the year.

In the outline about the project by Regional Arts Victoria, the project is described as "throwing a bunch of bike parts into a blender with a healthy dose of youthful enthusiasm", that will ultimately showcase the creative potential of local teenage boys in Clunes.

The project is one of eight to receive a grant in the second round of funding this year, with successful round one applicants including the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
