A number of residents will round out their working week today ahead of the Ballarat Show public holiday.
The holiday is in lieu of Ballarat having the Tuesday of the Melbourne Cup off, and has been locked in as a public holiday until next year.
There has been some frustration from businesses around town though, amid concerns the day does more harm than good to their trade.
Those claims however have been largely dismissed by the City of Ballarat however, who says there has been plenty of support for the holiday from right around the community.
Council determined the Ballarat Show public holiday in accordance with the Victorian Public Holidays Act 1993, which allows a Victorian Council to choose an alternate date for the public holiday should they choose to take the Melbourne Cup Day holiday.
The City of Ballarat has also noted that the decision for the public holiday came after Council considered feedback from the community when determining the public holiday dates for 2017 through to 2020, which included responses from business groups and stakeholders, made by Commerce Ballarat and the Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society.
Ahead of the public holiday tomorrow, only essential services by Council will operate, with the Visitor Information Centre to operate from 9am-5pm, while personal care appointments will be maintained.
