Police are appealing for the public's assistance following a robbery and assault in Ballarat's CBD last Friday.

Investigators say a man from Alfredton was walking near Bridge Street and Time Lane when he was approached by two men on October 11 around 2:30pm.

The men demanded the 22 year old hand over his phone, before one of the alleged offenders threw him into a nearby garden bed and began punching him.

The offenders then fled the scene on foot after the victim gave the pair his phone.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault, but did not require treatment.

Police have released vision of two men they believe may assist with their investigation.

The first man is described as aged in his mid 20s with dark spiked hair, and was wearing a red hooded jumper, olive green three-quarter-length pants, and was carrying a black backpack.

The second offender is described as aged in his mid 20s as well, and was wearing a long sleeve white t-shirt with a blue cap and sunglasses on the back of his neck.

Anyone who recognises the men pictured, or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
