Rising boxing star Jack Denahy has earned another accolade, this time receiving a scholarship.

The 20 year old is one of five young athletes who have been selected for Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarships, which will also see him partake in a mentoring program.

The Buninyong boxer will receive one-on-one personal mentoring from Australian squash world champion Sarah Fitz-Gerald AM, as well as a $5,000 sporting expenses grant.

Jack says he's thrilled to be working with the Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

"Having access to the valuable experience of a sporting great such as Sarah Fitz-Gerald will help me build my career in ways I can’t begin to imagine," he said.

"The funding and recognition provided will allow me to step my training up to the next level including increased strength and conditioning and seeking the best nutrition. I am truly grateful for the opportunity from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.”

Fitz-Gerald also shared her and Jack already have a unique connection.

"I feel really honoured to be asked to mentor Jack, his mother and I have been great friends since we were kids, so to watch her son grow up, make decisions which have led him down this path with sport and now to see him achieving so much and working so hard gives me a huge thrill," she said.

Jack is continuing to work towards his goal of representing Australia at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, with Boxing Australia's CEO Josh O'Brien saying that having Sarah in his corner will help him boost his changes of securing a spot.

The scholarships will be officially presented to the five recipients at a ceremony in Melbourne on October 10.
