The future of the Ballarat Innovation and Research Collaboration for Health remains up in the air.
After writing to Federal Health Minister, Greg Hunt last month, local MP for Ballarat, Catherine King was advised that the Morrison Government was unable to find any funding for the BIRCH project last week.
Calling it a disappointing outcome, King says the area is already a hub for medical care, innovation and research, and that the government should invest to build on Ballarat's already strong health and health training reputation.
Meantime, researchers at BIRCH have been told they can apply for research grants, so long as they meet the appropriate eligibility criteria.
The Ballarat Innovation and Research Collaboration for Health is a collaboration between Ballarat's two major hospitals, and six universities throughout Victoria, listed below.
- Federation University
- Deakin University
- Melbourne University
- La Trobe University
- Australian Catholic University
- University of Notre Dame
