The Melbourne Cup will tour the globe as part of its 17th annual tour, and Ballarat is on the list of destinations.
Announced at Flemington Racecourse yesterday, Ballarat is one of 39 towns and cities around the world that will see the 18 carat gold cup in the flesh.
Ballarat is also one of 24 regional destinations allocated a barrier in this year's cup race.
Barriers will be drawn at random throughout the Tour, and the town which draws the barrier of the Lexus Melbourne Cup-winning horse will be presented with a cash prize of $50,000 to be put towards a charity for a local community initiative.
The Cup will visit 32 Australian destinations and 7 countries overseas as part of the Tour, before arriving in Ballarat on October 2.
