Mavis the much-loved greyhound is coming home to Sebastopol, after turning up tied to a tree in Melbourne's outer north.
Mitchell Shire Council rangers were called to a suburban street in Wallan (pictured) where they believe she had been tied to a tree for some time.
It's unclear how the desexed and microchipped female ended up more than 130km away, especially in the space of less than a day.
Police allege Mavis was stolen from a Sebastopol backyard overnight on Wednesday (9 May 2018).
Mitchell staff say she turned up in Wallan later that day.
Greyhound Racing Victoria was initially contacted but Mavis' ID number indicated she had been re-homed 3 years ago.
Ballarat Police say she has now been reunited with her owner.
