A temporary fire station in Lucas is operational ahead of the completion of a new permanent station.

The permanent station which is expected to be up and running next year will have four engine bays and ten bedrooms for 25 career firefighters, along with modern facilities and the latest equipment, including a heavy pumper fire truck and trained personnel and equipment to respond to Emergency Medical Response (EMR) incidents.

Meanwhile the Ballarat City fire station has also become EMR capable.

The co-responder initiative is designed to boost cardiac arrest victims’ chances of survival, with firefighters responding simultaneously with the nearest ambulance to provide life-saving emergency care.
