The majority of filming for the Michelle Payne biopic 'Ride Like a Girl' is due to start late March, but there is still no word on whether it'll be shot in Ballarat, where the 2015 Melbourne Cup winning jockey grew up.
Roadshow Films has bought the Australian rights to the comedy/drama, in which 'Hacksaw Ridge' actor Teresa Palmer plays the lead role.
Sam Neill will play father Paddy Payne, Academy Award winner Jacki Weaver will play manager Joan Saddler and according to 'Inside Film' magazine it looks like brother and strapper Stevie Payne will play himself.
Michelle Payne has been brought on board as a consultant and Producer Richard Keddie says the film should push a lot of "emotional buttons"
Last week Director Rachel Griffiths told US website 'Deadline' that the film will be a '"last of the litter story. Her quest was really to bring home the golden chalice and put her family's name i the history books."
Griffiths also said she saw Ride Like a Girl's vibe as something akin to 'Billy Elliot" or "The Full Monty".
