Council will urge the government to reinstate Lydiard Street’s heritage gates unless a clear argument can made otherwise.
Senior councillors will meet with the Department of Transport on Wednesday in hopes of finding an interim solution to re-open the railway crossing to traffic.
Councillor Daniel Moloney says traffic lights and removal of the northern gate were temporary options.
"We have been very tolerant, and was all of Ballarat when this happened, but nine months on we expect to see something a bit more than just the barricade there," he said.
