The $4 million second stage of works will soon be underway at the Ballarat Sport and Events Centre (BSEC).

The works will include the development of three 3x3 basketball courts, a learning centre, regional strength and conditioning centre and façade upgrade of the original facility.

The competition standard 3x3 courts will be the first of their kind in Ballarat.

Speaking to Radio Ballarat, Cr Samantha McIntosh says local builders H Troon have been appointed following a decision at Wednesday night's City of Ballarat council meeting.

"It sets us up for a great future."

"They know our space, they know our requirements, they know the standards that we aspire to and they know what's already been put there which is pretty spectacular," Cr McIntosh said.

Another local firm, Nicholson Construction, built stage one of the project.

The stage two works are fully funded by the Victorian Government and will be opened in early 2022.
