The City of Ballarat has still not made a decision on where the cancelled Australia Day fireworks might end up.

Councillors made the call to cancel the 40 year old fireworks due to Covid restrictions and calls for January 26th to be a more inclusive event.

Cr Ben Taylor says conversations are continuing at Ballarat Town Hall with the Begonia Festival still potentially a possibility.

"There has been discussions about whether its around the Begonia Festival weekend or whether its another day or another festival we could have."

"At this stage we've put it on hold with Australia Day and we'll look at another time to do it," Cr Taylor said.

"But we're still planning through for 2022 around what Australia Day would look like as a community event as well."

The Ballarat Citizen of the Year awards are set to go ahead on January 25th with the Survival Day dawn service from 5.30am on Tuesday 26th. Locals are encouraged to live stream the Lake Wendouree service.

Ballarat will also welcome new citizens who will take the oath of Australian Citizenship.
