Rain, hail or shine dining outdoors in Ballarat has just become a much more reliable option.

The City of Ballarat has launched 2 new outdoor dining hubs in Sturt and Armstrong Streets with places for 36 extra diners.

The hubs have been funded through $500,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Councils Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package to support hospitality businesses reopening following the COVID period.

Ballarat Mayor Councillor Daniel Moloney said the expansion of outdoor dining options in the city would provide a welcome boost to Ballarat CBD businesses.

“These hubs will have a direct benefit for the successful joint applicants by expanding the number of patrons they’re able to host under COVID Normal conditions.”

“Expanded alfresco dining will also add to the already vibrant atmosphere in these locations and benefit other neighbouring businesses by increasing foot traffic," Cr Moloney said.

The hubs will be in place until the end of daylight saving and will also be used at major events such as the Road Nationals Cycling and Begonia Festival.
